idoxuridine /ī′doksyo͝or″ədēn/ , an ophthalmic antiviral drug. 
INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the treatment of herpes simplex keratitis. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Deep ulceration of the cornea or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are visual disturbances and eye discomfort.
