hyponasality

hyponasality /hī′pōnāzal′itē/ [Gk, hypo, under + nasus, nose] , a speech characteristic caused by insufficient resonance of air in the nasal cavity so that speakers sound as if they have a cold. Consonant sounds /m/, /n/, and /ng/ are affected. Also called denasality.
