high-altitude pulmonary edema

high-altitude pulmonary edema [ME, heigh, high + L, altitudo + Gk, oidema, swelling] , a form of pulmonary edema that occurs in people who move rapidly to higher altitudes. Fluid accumulates in the lungs as atmospheric pressure decreases.
