hexose

hexose /hek″sōs/ [Gk, hex, six, glykys, sweet] , a monosaccharide that contains six carbon atoms in the molecule. Glucose, mannose, and fructose are the principal hexoses found in nature, as well as being the principal absorbable end products of carbohydrate digestion.
