hemoglobin M disease

hemoglobin M disease [Gk, haima, blood; L, globus, ball; M; Gk, dis, not; Fr, aise, ease] , a mild to moderate anemia in which a percentage of the hemoglobin contains iron in the Fe+++ state and is unable to combine with oxygen. The patient may experience cyanosis. See also methemoglobin.
