hemoglobin F (Hb F)

hemoglobin F (Hb F), normal fetal hemoglobin. Hb F is replaced by hemoglobin A in the first weeks after birth. Hb F has an increased capacity to carry oxygen and is present in increased amounts in sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and hereditary persistence of hemoglobin F.
