gingiva /jinjī″və/ pl. gingivae [L, gum] , the gum tissues of the mouth, consisting of a mucous membrane with supporting fibrous tissue that overlies the crowns of unerupted teeth and encircles the necks of teeth that have erupted. −gingival, adj.
