alveolectomy /al′vē·əlek″təmē/ [L, alveolus, little hollow; Gk, ektomē, excision] , the excision of a portion of the alveolar process performed to aid in the extraction of a tooth or teeth, modify the alveolar contour after tooth extraction, or prepare the mouth for dentures.
