germinal center

germinal center [L, germen, sprout; Gk, kentron, center] , an antigen-localizing follicle of lymphoid tissue, occupying the center of the lymphatic nodules of the spleen, tonsils, and lymph nodes. It reacts to antigens, enlarging and becoming filled with lymphoblasts and macrophages at the center of a ring of small lymphocytes.
