alternating current (AC)

alternating current (AC) /ôl″tərnā′ting/ , an electrical current that reverses directions in a repetitive sinusoidal pattern. The frequency of repetition is 60 hertz. This means the direction of the current changes 60 times every second. Compare direct current. See also current.
