globus pallidus /pal″idəs/ [L, small ball, pale] , the smaller and more medial part of the lentiform nucleus of the brain, separated from the putamen by the lateral medullary lamina and divided into external and internal portions closely connected to the striatum, thalamus, and mesencephalon.
