abiotrophy /ab′ē·ot″rəfē/ [Gk, a + bios + trophe, nutrition, growth] , degeneration or loss of function that is not due to any apparent injury. Usually applied to degenerative hereditary diseases of late onset. See also atrophy. −abiotrophic, adj.
