esophageal lead

esophageal lead /lēd/ , 1. an electrocardiographic conductor in which the exploring electrode is placed within the lumen of the esophagus. It is used to detect sizable atrial deflections as an aid in identifying cardiac arrhythmias. 2. (Informal) a tracing produced by such a lead on an electrocardiograph.
