Esmarch’s bandage

Esmarch’s bandage /es″märks/ [Johann F.A. von Esmarch, German surgeon, 1823–1908] , a broad, flat elastic bandage wrapped around an elevated limb to force blood out of the limb. It is used before certain surgical procedures to create a blood-free field.
