embryogenesis /em′brē·ōjen″əsis/ [Gk, en + bryein + genein, to produce] , the process in sexual reproduction by which an embryo forms from the fertilization of an ovum. Also called embryogeny. See also heterogenesis, homogenesis. −embryogenetic, embryogenic, adj.
