ectopic /ektop″ik/ [Gk, ek + topos, place] , 1. (of an object or organ) situated in an unusual place, away from its normal location, for example, an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs outside the uterus. 2. (of an event) occurring at the wrong time, as a premature heartbeat or premature ventricular contraction.
