dynode

dynode /dī″nōd/ , one of a series of platelike elements that amplify electron pulses in a photomultiplier tube. Each electron that strikes a dynode causes several secondary electrons to be emitted. The dynode gain is the ratio of the number of secondary electrons to the number of incident electrons.
