drifting tooth

drifting tooth, a tooth that migrates from its normal position. Causes include a loss of proximal support or functional antagonists, occlusal traumatic tooth relationships, inflammatory and retrograde changes in the attachment apparatus, and oral habits, such as thumb-sucking and bruxism.
