docusate /dok″yo̅o̅sāt/ , a stool softener. Also called dioctyl calcium sulfosuccinate, dioctyl potassium sulfosuccinate, dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate. 
INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of constipation. CONTRAINDICATIONS: Signs or symptoms of appendicitis, concomitant administration of mineral oil, or known hypersensitivity to the drug prohibits its use. ADVERSE EFFECTS: No serious adverse reactions are known.
