agenesis /ājen″əsis/ [Gk, a + genein, not to produce] , 1. a congenital absence of an organ or part, usually caused by a lack of primordial tissue and failure of development in the embryo. 2. impotence or sterility. Also called agenesia. Compare dysgenesis. −agenic, adj.
