diffusing capacity of lungs (DL)

diffusing capacity of lungs (DL), the volume of a gas that diffuses from the lung across the alveolar-capillary membrane into the bloodstream per minute per mm Hg difference in pressure across the membrane. The normal DL for oxygen averages 20 mL/min/mm Hg. Also called transfer factor of lungs.
