deviation of tongue

deviation of tongue [L, deviare, to turn aside; AS, tunge] , a tendency of the tongue to turn away from the midline when extended or protruded. The condition is associated with a hypoglossal nerve defect, and the tongue deviates to the side of the injured nerve. Also called tongue deviation.
