aerophagy

aerophagy /erof″əjē/ [Gk, aer + phagein, to eat] , the excessive swallowing of air, usually an unconscious process associated with anxiety, resulting in abdominal distension or belching, gastric distress, and flatulence. It is often interpreted by the patient as signs of a physical disorder.
